Site Ranking Dropped Huge After Update

Hi Guys,

I updated my theme a bit ago and lost like 200,000 spots on Alexa. (totally crushed my earnings). What do you think could have happened?

Im still very regular with new post updates, and feel like the site is more appealing visually?

Has that happened to anyone else?

Never update your theme regularly because even the user forget about your website as Search engines too. Keep update the content and don't worry problem will be solved soon. Good luck.

Keep updating content on regular basis and do not worry much about alexa rankings. Because alexa rank the sites based on the alexa tool bar installed on browser. Not everybody has the Alexa toolbar installed, so there might be millions of Web sites that, even if they have a lot of traffic, will not be ranked (or not high enough) by Alexa. It is rather relative.

It's weird too cause I feel like there in a relationship between Alexa rank and adsense earning.

When the site dropped also the earnings per day dropped too!

When you updated the theme, did the URL structure change or anything along those lines?

Did you create a backup your site before you were updating your theme?

Apart from that, If your URL structure or SEO settings in Yoast ( I hope you are using Yoast SEO Plugin ) have changed during the update, you may face some problems.

( Do not care about Alexa right now. Focus solely on Solving your current situation. )

Do give us a little bit more information so that we can search your problem and help you out.

analyze the competitors and understand their strategies and compare them to yourself. even if they have no backlinks apparently they do have them probably but they were not cached yet by the crawlers if the sites are very new. also it could be that the landing page does not have links but it is powered by the main domain etc.

Did you check the URL of each posts or pages? If the urls are not changed, then you should check the rankings of your keywords. If rankings down, then it can cause the increase of alexa ranking of your site.

Best question on the thread so far.

Unless the OP answers definitively, anything posted here is just a best guess.

Generally, bloggers experience either significant drop or improvement in blog traffic after changing the theme. Usually, the traffic recovers after a couple of months, however, if you see a continuous drop in your traffic you should think of reverting to the theme you were using previously. Some themes are not so well SEO optimized and despite nice look and inference of the themes, you might not be able to improve traffic to your site.

Like I said earlier, we should wait for the OP to reply again and answer all of our QUESTIONS we asked in the thread before we take wild guess's. We don't even have the URL either.

Permalink structure!

If it's different all of your pages will have to be reindexed and your links won't count for anything.

Google recommends keeping all URLs the same, and if for some reason you have to move domain / URLs - use 301 redirects, this is recommended by Google themselves.

I suggest to not rely on Alexa ranking, as this is not a mere basis for website performance. Just focus more on content development and linkbuilding to rise up again..

Huge drop. But that should not scare you. If you have maintained your traffic, then you should be hup in not time.

I suggest you, to not look so seriously to Alexa's ranking, if you have still the traffic, you will get the Alexa's rank again, but don't consider it to much. That's why

I created a website, and got there about 10 visits, next day I saw that the site's on Alexa is above 2 million, but I have a blog where I work very hard, that doesn't have that rank.

That's why Alexa SUCKS

This can be frustrating with SEO. I'm thinking email marketing might be a better route...
