HOsted vs. Personal Hosted

Are hosted blog sites such as blogger.com better for getting search engine rankings or do you guys think yourdomain.com with your own blog is just as good?

I know back in the day blogger.com and others really got indexed quick but today I'm not so sure.

I'm working on 2 blogs that will have REAL content written by myself and some others... we plan to then link to some of OUR other related sites (all 100% legit) and am wondering if I should host the blogs on my server or at a blog host.

Anyone tested/compared both?

Always host yourself if you have a vested or financial interest in the content and the site. Only rely on others if the site is of little importance.

Any indexing advantage of being with blogger (and there is some) only matters is you are writing about "breaking news" and need to be the-first-to-market (most of us don't have such exciting lives). Even then I'd be inclined to use blogger as a pointer to my main story on my own site.

This could be a good opportunity for you to get new links from another range of unique IP's outside your normal network.

Don't they get indexed really quick even now? In my own experience, whenever I created a blog @ Blogger.com/WordPress.com, it got indexed quickly. And the main reason for this, as far as I think, is the existence of the domains.

It takes time for search engines to index a pretty new domain (think about it if you are going to choose the Personal Hosted option). If we talk about Blogger or WordPress hosted blogs, the new blogs get indexed quickly because the main domains, .blogspot.com/.wordpress.com (blogger/wordpress), are already indexed.

But if you plan to make some nice bucks with your blog, Personal Hosted blog will be the best way to go. With your own domain, you are the king. There is nothing to worry about getting your hosted blogs deleted (it's another matter if you choose a paid hosted blog service) or such other things.

If you are looking at long term, I personally have found using my own domain and hosting to be more effective. I also prefer having full control, so that is part of it, but I have never had one take more than a day or two to get indexed either.

As most of BSPs have been banned in this country I have to try to do it in personal host.

But personally I like blogging in my host, I can modify the script, template etc which is more funny.

What do you more knowledgable folk think about having both a blogger hosted blog and a personallly hosted blog that are interlinked? Will that help your hosted blog get indexed quicker, etc?
