Anatomy Of The Perfect Blog Post

If you are struggling with composing the perfect blog post or just starting out blogging you might find this article by David Riley helpful:

When you spend a fair amount of time crafting that blog post, you want it to count. You want people to read it. You want people to share it. You want to get some traffic from it.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen.

There are certain things you can do with every blog post you write in order to increase it’s potential for effectiveness.

In truth, there is no such thing as perfection. The idea of a “perfect” blog post doesn’t exist. However, there is both art and science behind an optimized blog post. The art comes down to how good of a writer you are, your topic, etc. The science, however, comes down to proven best practices...
Anatomy Of The Perfect Blog Post: A Complete Guide To Ideal Blog Post Structure And Formatting

My blog post are usually written in college level essay format, which is similar to what is laid out in the article you linked to.

Everyone who took a composition class in college should know:

Intro

Topics

Closure

That is the same format my blog post are.

my own blog is related to ancestry and family trees in Ireland.

I tend to take ages, researching and writing long posts on specific topics (gravestones in an old graveyard, for example).

wordpress is what I use, aided by a couple of seo plugins.

I am concerned however, that my posts are too definitive/too long. I get the vibe (from seeing my traffic figures) that google prefers shorter snappier posts.

Maybe this is something I have to do in 2018 - write shorter posts......although this defeats my efforts at writing definitive posts on a topic.

So based on my own experiences, I might add to this thread, that the perfect blog post, at least in google's eyes, should be relatively short and to the point.

Blog Writing

I think everyone needs to write in their own way. Many articles on the web fail to mention the industry that you are in and who YOU are. Those two components can make what the type of article you are writing about to be so much different than what others might have you do.

One good technique that I have used - when I am struggling to write is to list out the sections or chapters first. Then start with the intro and then the end.

Look at it to see if it makes any sense and if it seems interesting to you.

Lastly go back in and fill in all of the details in the sections.

One last piece of advice - I really believe that the perfect article really probably does not exist.

Multitrackers has a good point. Most people today want instant info they do not like reading long blog post. They want good info fast and to the point.

You have to get thier attention fast and try to hold it.
