How to change WordPress header part and place logo

I download WordPress from Fantastico and now i have huge blue logo on top with Blog Name but i don't like it, how to remove this part and place my regular logo.

I've never done it, but I found some useful information at the site when I was considering making my own theme. It took a little digging to find it, it seems as though their site is laid out unusually, but luckily I bookmarked this link: http://codex.wordpress.org/Stepping_Into_Templates

You would want to edit the header template in the wordpress theme you are using. Goto Presentation > Theme Editor > Header, and edit the necessary code. You also need to chmod 666 the header template file so wordpress can write to it.

You could also locate the header images. Find out their name then create new images in that name and then copy over the existing images.

I am trying to do the same thing

I managed to put a starry black background on my blogs using my own image and

</STYLE>

In the main index template

I also managed to edit the header text

but I want to remove the default header all together

and replace it with my own image and text

Right, so I have to edit the header template

and upload my own image

Would I have to edit the main index page template too?

Additional:

I just logged in to my WordPress Blog Admin

I went to the theme editor and I am looking at the header

It is these parts I would have to change right?

But what is this part and what does it do?
