Weblog Usability: The Top Ten Design Mistakes

In October of 2005, Jakob Nielsen wrote an excellent article listing the top 10 design mistakes for blogs. Although it has been nearly 18 months since the article was written, many of his thoughts are still true today. I would love to hear your response to the information in this article. What things would you would add to the list?

I have to admit being very surprised that none of you have responded to this post. I had hoped that more of you wanted to take part in building this section of the forums up to help us all develop higher quality blogs.

Perhaps I was wrong and not many people have any interest in that.

I don't know about the hosted domain thing.
I don't think it lessons the writers credibility, especially if you are writing about your 2 year old taking a poop, or are just writing for fun, or hobbie.
Which brings me to subject matter. A lot of blogs suck. They do. Not all. But alot.
There are many blogs that provide some very informative subject matter, make me laugh, or are just plain interesting, but, I am seriously tired of the "Rant" blogs, which seem to be everywhere
Political rant...yes.(if you actually read , or watch the news), or any subject matter about pressing issues, or todays happenings, I even enjoy a good ex boyfriend/girlfriend bitch session, if it is expressed well,

Sitting there writing about your neighbors dog, how long the line was at the bank today, stupid people in the everyday life of your small town, or how you can't find a job is just boring.
But even those can be made interesting if there are pictures included...just reading it, is not entertaining.

If you are going to talk about how big someones butt is...SHOW US THE BUTT!

There is a saying in a lot of forums:
"This thread is useless without pics". And so are most blogs.

Most people are not that interesting, and are not as cleaver as they think they are. You can tell the difference between someone who enjoys writing about the subject matter, or someone just looking for "Cudos" of how funny they are.
Rather have 20 loyal readers who share the same interest and enjoy commenting on the subject matter, and participating, than 500 people that say nothing.

I think the number one mistake of bloggers is suck *ss subject matter, and self serving posts.
