Display top stories (from a blog) on another site

I am new at all of this but know HTML and a tiny bit of PHP. I have a web site with pictures and articles about some local lake activities. I also have three poeple that occasionally write articles for the site as well. I recently decided to use word press as the tool for these guys to write stories as it offers way more flexibility that I could provide through a custom php interface. On the home page of the web site I have a little thumbnail of the author and the date and title of the story, I would like to keep this format as they write stories using WP so I was thinking that all I had to do was to place some php code on the home page of my site that would display that authors most recent story, problem is, I am not sure what code I need use to display that information. I want this so that it updates automatically when an Author writes a new story. I am not interested in updating links when a new comment is made, just new stories. Hope this makes sense.

How wold I go about doing this? The site and Word press are hosted on the same server too.

I haven't actually tried this, but this software looks like it would work:

I'm not a coder, so I couldn't code it myself. But if you are trying to code it yourself, you'd basically just need to read the blog's RSS feed and convert that into html.

Thanks for the links but I guess I am not as savvy as i thought I was because I can not figure out what the heck yfs1's php code is doing. I tried playing with the links in the code but to no avail. I am not sure what goes where.

Can someone offer some additional assistance here please? I didn't think it would be this hard to place recent blog Titles and dates on the front page of your own web site from a blog that you administer. I know I am missing something here.
