My Blog hit by spammer! Blog blaster

sad... yest night while on my desk, i was alert with 10 continuous email alert of a comment posting at my webblog. its a spamming. with about 5 sec interval.

i quickly login to my blog and check the plugin. Oh god, the "did you pass math" plugin is not activated. I quickly turn it ON and stop the spam coming in.

the plugin does the job, but its not sufficient. I see this as a weak protection. and will be break by those spam coder soon. Anyone can recommend me a better spam protection? .. i dont want user to signup just to post a comment.

I use Askimet on wordpress and I get no spam coming through.
I also set my comments to go to que and be approved too.
Will that help you, or are you using a different platform?

I use Askimet and it catches most of everything. I'm also put some words on the 'Automatically moderate me' list based on things that were getting through that were still spam.

I have that math plugin, but got rid of it. I think it causes too many problems for people who leave legit comments.

I'm a bit confused as to why you don't want user to signup just to post a comment. Why else would they sign up?

I use spam karma. I had akismet before but recently it hasn't been catching a lot of spam trackbacks.

I also don't want users to sign up to post a comment on my blog. I myself get annoyed by it when I'm required to sign up just to comment. So my readers don't have to sign up at all to do what they usually do (comment, read all posts, etc)

Easy answer to that, don't let people sign up in the first place.

Akismet and Bad Behavior plugins will do the trick. No spam.

The original poster. From the way I read it, I understood it to mean that he doesn't want people to have to register just to comment. Of which the easy solution is to not let people sign up, because then they can't sign up just to leave a comment.

I would try the spam karma 2 for blog spam protection

Akismet is one of the best, Spam Karma2 is slow plugin for me,
I think Akismet + captcha - is optimal way to protect

Hi,

I get about 150 bots and about 100 manual spammers each day. I use Akismet (to catch the manual spammers) and Bad Behavior to stop the bots. It has been working very well.

You should moderate your comment...that's the effective way to stop spammers...
