Probably the best way to start is by visiting forums that complement the interest of your blog and begin to participate in the discussions. I think it would be good if you read successful blogs like Darren's Problogger.net, or blogs that are related to your niche.
And I also found out that you can get extra few hundred hits to your blog if you StumbleUpon it.
