You should ping every time you update the blogs. Pingomatic & Pingaot are some some of the websites I use to ping. Pinging lets know that blog has been updated.

its like letting certain sites know that your blog has been updated...I think it helps to have a bot visit and drive traffic as well..

I have received some pinging to my site too.. I don't know if what the used of this, just I thought is he copy my articles to his site...and he attached my links to his blogs.. Can you post guys, what the used of pinging is and how it works..
