Wordpress question about stand alone domains

I understand Wordpress is good for using a stand alone domain name for a blog.

My question is: can someone with a website hosted on another server then have a blog at Wordpress as a subdirectory?

For example; blalblahblah.com hosted on one server

and then

blahblahblah.com/blog hosted at Wordpress?

You can always install wordpress in blahblahblah.com/blog
Like for example, for me, i use the cpanel / fantastico / wordpress to install wordpress, you can then use any subfolder you want it to be installed.
