what exactly is a blog and can it benefit a website?

hi i would just like to know exactly what blogging is and how can it generate more traffic to a website?how do i do this blogging stuff?

Basically (and this is what people tend to forget) it's a website. No amount of special features will change that.

That being said, it's a website without a lot of the work. Basically you pick a blog platform, pick a theme, and just worry about the content portion of the site from then on.

People can leave comments if you wish. You can do a lot of special things with it. But don't forget that it's still just a website.

I recommend www.wordpress.org! Most popular blogging platform.

What website do you want it to drive traffic do. . . Blogs in general aren't created to do this, but you could attach a blog to an existing site if you wish.

Some persons use it as an "online diary".

Business persons use it as a means of announcing/discussing various topics of relevance for their industry.

it can benefit by posting valuable content and people will be curious to know your site, and can share their point of view.
I suppose that you have a not well written script with security in mind...

really i had an idea in mind that i would like to give a snippet of my website on a blog and create a link back to my site(link building) to get more hits to my website.is this possible?also can you use adsense on blogs?

You can promote your website through your blog by writing articles that are very much related to your site (as well as press releases when necessary). You can either write a full article then link to your site to access the product/service you are promoting, or just write a snippet (like you mentioned) and link back to your site for the full article content.

You can use adsense on Blogger (Blogspot). I don't know about others, except for blogs that are on domains that you own. I think Wordpress doesn't support adsense.
