Well, seeing that I only have 43 Blog posts out there on others servers & they are all targeting my main site, along with the added fact that my main site is over 3,500+ pages (Only 2,000 or so indexed) with an inner blogging system for my Articles / Tutorials.... NO, My blogs do not get more traffic than my main site.
I suppose this all depends on each persons strategic marketing campaign. I found that having the Quality, Unique, Educational content on my main site encourages more Organic inbound linkage along with a more solid Public Relations concept.
I would much rather have a Direct organic inbound link pointing to my main site, rather than a middleman blog that received the Organic link & then passes a mere portion of its authority to my main site.
Do I rule out blogging in general? No, I think that blogging can prove to be a great Viable inbound links source as long as the content on each blog is unique & related to your main site. (Mainly for the Unique Domain extension pointing to you, which seems to hold more weight than a sub-page of your own directing back to your main root index.)
As you can see there are Pro's and Con's to Blogging.. Both justifiable in there own way...
