for me social bookmarking is a good way to boost traffic for a site if you post unique article to your blog. i guess the traffic from social bookmarking is just temporary if you did not submit new content from a site.

social bookmarking is a fine thing to drive temporary traffic. its useful to site's especially to those business interrelated sites.

social bookmarking usually gives a lot of traffic, if the blog or site reaches the homepage of any big social networking website! my blog was down for several hours because of the hits, and that is the problem! not all servers can take 1k+ hits at a time!

I can't say that I totally agree with David's article.

Yes, some of his points are valid, but Social Bookmarking is a valid tool in your effort to gain traffic. It provides a quick way to start gaining links and interest in your site.

I disagree about it being a passing phase. Now I do believe that like anything else there will be a shakeout in the SB arena. I already see sites whose popularity has dwindled, but this is because surfers have found the ones that they like and have stopped using others.

I expect Social Bookmarking to be around for a long time.

Well, that's the bad side of social bookmarkings but to have more traffic to your site you should do some social bookmarkings. If you are depending only to different SE's, I don't think that you can have more traffic especially if most of your keywords did not rank well.

Okay, I know someone is going to disagree with me here but I don't think the guy knows what he's talking about.

1. Digg effect can knock your site offline? - Is this guy nuts? You blog to have others read them, so what if it's offline for a few hours and in term you increase your readership by double or even triple? By the way if your site actually goes offline with Digg, your host is most likely pretty bad. 3-5k visitors in one day should handle okay with any share host servers.

2. Second, Diggers, Stumblers, and Redditers tend to be marginally more internet savvy than other web users. This usually means they will either ignore your blog’s monetization efforts - This statement is just straight out foolish. Let's take John Chow's money making blog for example. Do you think his visitors are not tech savvy? Why is he still making so much money? I've seen his story hit front page many times.

Don't want to go into further details, but I just simply don't agree with anything he's talking about.
