I don't know what all of the lingo is, still learning.

the links which come from other sites are called backlinks....this is important for SERP becoz the more of backlinks you get from sites which google crawls often the possibility of google indexing your site increases.

By the way the very best way to get backlinks is through blogcarnival.com where you can submit your posts to get included in other peoples carnivals. Everyone esle explained backlink, so I wont go into that.

in case you didn't know.. the
more backlinks you get, the higher your site PR would be.
backlinks can also drive targetted traffic.
