Best Free Blog Provider

I am planning to create a blog that people could also submit their own article.
You guys have any idea if what are those blog provider that this can be possible?

You can have this with wordpress, where you assign 'roles" for registered users as authors or contributors. Also, there is a multi-user version from wordpress at mu.wordpress.org

if you want a hosted solution you could try Wordpress.com, otherwise the best options are Wordpress, Nucleus and Serendipity

I see the word 'free' in the thread title. That narrows it down to only Blogger really.

And I would go with wordpress without any doubt, it's simply the best for task you want to accomplish

Most of my blog are hosted by blogger and I can say that its the best free blog provider..But wordpress works on well for me too..

I'm partial to Wordpress.

wordpress.org
Pros: They will host your blog and take care of enhancements and upgrades. You show up in people's related blog listings and searches.

Cons: There are limits to customization. Additional services such as redirects to custom domain names require the purchase of credits.

If you're a bit more technically saavy, you can download the free Wordpress client and install it on your own server. No compiler necessary --the install procedure is actually quite simple.

Pros: You have more flexibility with customization.

Cons: You have to upgrade your own client. Because php is a base component of the Wordpress client, security patches are released frequently.

I also seem to recall reading somewhere that the wordpress team would be happy to install wordpress for you.

None of the Free ones are good. You don't control / own your content. You hear horror stories daily of people loosing all their work because they can't "login anymore to blogger" etc.

I've had a blogger blog for 2 years, never a problem, but it's nowhere near as customisable as your own hosted wordpress solution.

Many have never had a problem just like say paypal. THe issue is when it's you who does. Imagine waking up one day and not being able to login!?

I too am partial to wordpress - it's just good, simple, software that is easy to extend. You can find practically an extension for anything you want. For your purposes, I would download wordpress from wordpress.org and install it on your own server (most probably through a web host). You'll have much greater flexibility in terms of design and functionality. I personally *hate* the limitations placed on wordpress.com itself. Instead of providing 3 MB of free, they should have allow full access to the customization aspects.

Anyway, random rant aside - wordpress is the way to go.

I think blogger is good then wordpress because one of my friend had worst experience with wordpress, his very well going blog with many many post in it and maintain for more then one year has been suspended by wordpress without giving any reason.
