What niche should my blog be?
My friend and I are looking to start a team to create a blog. We are going to work with around 4-5 writers and my friend and I will create the site and advertise. We are looking to find a niche that doesn't have a huge blog already. Like we wouldn't do a gadget blog because of engadget, techcrunch, and gizmodo. We were considering to do a Car blog but i am not sure we can compete with autoblog. What niche do you feel has room for a dominating blog?
Please don't reply with cheezy answers like you can compete with any blog if you have good content or something like that. Please reply with a single or a couple topics. Thanks

How would you know if the writers you're hiring are creating good content, if you yourself don't have any knowledge about it?

I'd agree with the above, writers are ok but if you choose a niche you have no idea about...i don't think that would be pleasant for you.
May i suggest a blog about internet services? At least i haven't found any bog at that category to get hooked at

I suggest you to use nicheaday.com or onlinemoneyguild.com/viewforum.php?f=34 for finding new niche!

I am not looking for answers as most of the above, I want one-two word responses, saying a certain niche.

No. Any niche is not fine. That's like saying "What kind of restaurant should I open, because I am going to hire a cook, so any style is fine".
You can only have success with what you know, or, can hire someone that knows it. Any old writer cannot just write about any subject that you choose, or else they will just be regurgitating content that is already out there...which is of no use to anyone.

What everyone is trying to tell you is...you will have the most success with what YOU know. A blog is probably the cheapest thing to set up and run, why do you need to hire 4 or 5 writers?
If you have no knowledge of any subject matter that you can excel in and offer expertise, share knowledge and passion, then why do you want a blog?
You can't fake quality content with generic writers. Successful blogs are successful because the person(s) who run them, has something to offer.
You seem to think this is just cookie cutter stuff, and you can just fake your way to the top, by throwing a little money on it.
If it were that easy, everyone would be a rich blogger.
You want a niche"? How about, "How to Fail Online".

I have to agree with dman_2007. Your blog should focus on things you care about and are comfortable writing with. The more knowledgeable you are about your subject area, the better the writing will be, and the more likely you are to attract an audience that can be monetized. If your writers have different strengths, have them focus on those things. They'll enjoy it more too!

I would normally suggest that you go with a niche that you are passionate about. But if you are not writing the content then you could go with a topic that you think would be competitive.
Go to Google and search only the blogs to see what your competition is.

Let me rephrase this. Imagine whatever niche it was, I am passionate and have great content for it. Which niche would be most succesful?

I don't see why you are not getting this.
IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT NICHE" YOU TARGET, IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT...AND CAN OFFER ORIGINAL , AND INFORMATIVE CONTENT, AND KNOW HOW TO MARKET, YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.
IF YOU DON"T, AND JUST PUT UP A COOKIE CUTTER GENERIC WEBSITE, WITH GENERIC WRITING...EVEN IF YOU PICK THE HIGHEST PAYING KEYWORD IN THE HISTORY OF THE INTERNET, YOU WILL FAIL.
YOU CANNOT BE SUCCESSFUL IN A FIELD THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW. PLAIN AND SIMPLE
It also has a lot to do with HOW you plan to make your money, Affiliate programs, Adsense, , CPC, CPL, CPM, Selling Links, Do You have an Original product?
There is no clear answer to that question, no matter how many different ways that you ask it.

I think it's obvious...
You're saying you don't care because you have writers...
They're saying you need to be passionate about your writing...
solution: ask your writers what they are most passionate about and try to find a way to blend all of their interests into one! You say you have like 4 or 5 writer right? I'm sure they share some similar interests...
However if you MUST have topics here are some:
Nature vs man blog (tsunamis, earthquake, etc...)
Corporations & Loans
Blog about video blogging
TV talk show reviews.
Blogs about things you can learn during your spare time..but with no value. (this is different from blogs that teach you how to do hobbies, this is how to do things that are 100% useless - like learning Al Bhed or how to draw a US flag out of bottle caps)
Don't like my ideas? Go to a blog directory (like blog catalog or blog-directory.com) and just look at which categories have the lowest amount of registered blogs...and pick one at random.

If you're going to use writers, pick your niche first, then find a few good writers who are knowledgeable in that niche. How do you know if they're good writers? Hire from webmaster forums where you can check their reputation.

? I dont get why you asked the question then if its a question of picking any niche.
making money ( that a niche, but a very general one )
or " the problem with one legged mountain goats from scotland" a very niche one
