blogging...why do you do it?
I am new to the idea of blogging. Why do you do it? Especially if you have one on a professional site that is your own.
I have suggested to a client of mine to add one to his web site. He is a minister and I thought it would add a personal touch. He really wants to promote his site to those looking for him to speak. But he is concerned that he would have nothing to say or would forget to write.
So what type of success have you had with blogging?

blogging is a great way to share what you have learned with others.
I own about 7 blogs all on diffrent niches that I post maybe 3 posts weekly on each.
I would suggest your "client" adding one, as they can drive major traffic and if he forgets to write, there are no worries.

I have 6 of my own, four I blog for that are not my own, and do occasional guest posts from time to time on blogs that aren't the other 10.
I blog because it's the only form of marketing I know that can get into multiple demographics easily and cheaply. For a small time investment I receive in return:
- Speaking gigs
- Expert status
- Book sales
Some of my blogs as well as the other blogs are done primarily for a part time income. But that part time income plus the book sales from blogging plus the speaking gigs makes for a very nice full time income.
It all adds up.
I look forward to hearing what other people's reasons are.

If your client is not ok having a blog I think it's better he doesn't have one at all. In the case of your client this will be like a journal where he keeps others updated about what he is doing, if he doesn't have time and won't update it then what's the use but he can still try it for some months and see what it gives.

I 2 blogs right now(one personal and one business) and I blog to teach my readers how to do my craft, get a feel for my target audience and to drive traffic to my site.
I think once your client gets into the blog thing, he will find he will have a lot to say. IMO

Common answer would be to be able to share your ideas, opinions and the stuffs you like. In your case, Maybe He can write something about anything related to his field or discuss a certain topic related to some issues.

One other thing...
Since your client is a minister this might be more helpful.
What makes your client different from all the other ministers of his faith? His point of view. If people are going to bring a minister or other religious leader in to speak at an event, etc. they want to know what they're going to hear (in general) before they hear it.
They don't want to bring what they think is a sweetness and light minister in and accidentally get fire and brimstone. Or vice versa.
So his views become that much more important. Everyone can read the bible, it is how a minister interprets the bible on behalf of his flock that makes him who he is - the voice of his congregation.

A blog is an excellent tool for additional web site traffic, get new newsletter subscribers and sell more products. Use your blog to introduce potential customers to your business.
A blog can increase site popularity if there are quality and unique content in it, if keywords are well targeted in a blog its helps in getting extra backlinks. It could be a link building strategy if you include the link of your main site directly to it.

I blog mainly because I like learning about new things online and it is a way to explore some of these new technologies and write about them.
I also blog on another site to try and pay the hosting bill, lol.

Well i think blogging is a good idea.
My boyfriend owned a blog and all he did was provide information that webmasters or newbie webmasters may want to know.
Also...
If your blog is good you could probably sell it for a good price.

For Personal Blog: it is one-way of expressing what you really are...
For Work-Related Blog: to gain traffic and inbound links for the main site...

I think this sounds like a great thing to do and will offer alot to the community. He is actually lucky as he has a target audience. Maybe have a session after church and get input on topics and start from there.
Maybe he should consider having a forum and have many topics this could be huge! With threads on cooking with Mrs Jones famous cheese cake to threads for teens and threads for assistance for the elderly. Church updates could be listed. Community projects can be started. There could be one thread to talk with the minister. Good Luck!
