You can use wordpress (wordpress.org), if you already have a website you can either have the blog on a subdomain (e.g http://blog.site.com) or in a subfolder (e.g http://www.site.com/blog)

Are you referring to free hosting blog site? or you want to have a blog in your sub folder?
Anyway, you can also try https://www.blogger.com/start if you are referring to free hosting blog site..

If you have your own hosting and domain name, just go to your control panel ( www.site.com/cpanel) and click the fantastico button. Its very easy to install your blog from there

I Have ---.blogger.com and ---.wordpress.com.
If you can use both of them, you will get the link to your site and some link to your site.

I'm a big fan of wordpress as well.
Its like renting a home vs. owning one - its usually better for most persons in the long run to own.
Same goes for blogging. Its generally better for most persons to own their own site, than to continue to build content on someone else's site that they control.

since you are new to blogging, I suggest Blogger for its user-friendliness and simple structure.

yeah, blogger seems good for beginners, but if you like something different, there are still other options like wordpress and live journal...

I recommend wordpress.
I recommend using a host with fantastico, which really makes installing it easy.
Then you main site will be http://www.yoursitename.com
And your blog will be http://www.yoursitename.com/blog
Real easy to do, especially with Fantastico doing all of the set up work for you.

It's easy. I use blogspot and it's user-friendly. It provides a step-by-step instruction on how to create your blog.

Okay, here's a great example of "the elephant in the middle of the room." At least, for me.
For the last year I have hated wordpress... why? Because, it being one of the multitude of really poorly written websites, it never bothers to mention, straight up, that you can install it onto your own website...
I have been looking for software that I can install onto my website so I host my own blog... and, last year, while working for a company, I was asked to create a wordpress blog... but, at that time, nothing was mentioned on the wordpress front page about self-hosting the blog... the only option was, like blogger, to have them host it. Well, this was part of my job and I did it-- but I hated wordpress-- really hated it! And that's rare for me.
Why?
It's a personal thing... I feel the same way about MS-Word. Let's just say, I find it a little "too" user-friendly, in that, the attitude of the developers seems to be that everyone is a complete idiot -- so THEY decide everything... sorry.
I don't know about the majority of the world, but I know I get annoyed when a program tells ME what I can do-- or keeps "interpreting" what I'm doing. It's like an over-eager office assistant... one that keeps bringing you coffee every five minutes just because you said, "keep it coming."
Still... I looked over their site this morning and am thinking of trying the install... maybe. One thing I don't understand-- why the heck does it need a database? My host only allows me three and I think I'm at my limit right now... I have to check.
Well... I'll let you know how it goes... mind you, I've already started creating and maintaining my own blog page. It not that hard, really. (I'd show you what I've already started, but it's not allowed.)
