assistance required please

I'm not the worlds greatest php programmer (an thus can only do basic stuff)

But, I tried using the 'Sessions across phpbb and your site' tutorial, with bad results.

Could someone help me intergrate the code to the template I want to use (which isn't and ideally never wants to be in the same folder as phpbb(unless required))?

The template is http://www.onlinegamenet.com/shared/indexed.php - my attempt is the Please LoginPlease Login bit in the top left corner.

I also require some small verification that changes the links depending on whether a user is online or not.
