Strange zoom effect in Firefox

I'm seeing an unusual zoom effect being applied to one of my HTML pages, but only with Firefox (3.0.10 version).

When I initially open the page, it displays normally. Whenever I return to it from another page (or even just refresh it with the F5 key), though, the entire page expands unexpectedly. I had originally though that it was a width issue but photos on the page which are initially displayed at their expected 200x200 size expand to 250x250.

This effect only happens with Firefox and doesn't show up with IE7, Netscape, Opera or Safari. Also, it only happens when the file is named 'index.html'. If I rename the file to 'index1.html' or 'index.htm', the problem disappears.

I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out what's going on. Has anybody seen anything similar?

I've seen this effect too when viewing some websites on my localhost. Here it was visible to all pages(increased font size), regardless their names(*.php)...

Things just got a little stranger. When the problem was showing up, clicking on 'Zoom Reset' canceled the zoom and restored the page to its proper size.

Since changing the file's name affected the problem and similar 'index.html' files in other subdirectories worked fine, I decided to try changing the folder name. With the folder name modified, the zoom effect stopped occurring. When I renamed the folder back to its original name, the problem is still no longer occurring.

I'm at a complete loss to explain how I 'fixed' the problem.

I think that I've discovered the cause of this strange zoom effect.

Firefox appears to remember the last zoom setting that was in effect for a given page. Closing Firefox with a page zoomed in causes Firefox to subsequently open that page using the old zoom setting. Changing the file's name or directory breaks the link from the page's old zoom setting and causes it to be opened at the default zoom.

To clear this effect without having to rename the file or directory, open the 'bad' page, click on 'View > Zoom > Reset' and exit Firefox. From that point on, the page will open normally.

Is CTRL+0 same effect with "click on 'View > Zoom > Reset' and exit Firefox"?

While I hadn't tried that, I'd expect that the reset shortcut would work identically to going through the menu.

This is one more reason why I don't like FF even if I use it quite often...

If you zoom in a page it will not reset on a page reload or when restarting the browser.

LAME !!
