phpBB - Fatal Error Allowed memory size exhausted

I'm just now getting the following error.

Quote:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3244625 bytes) in /home/public_html/forum/includes/bbcode.php on line 770

I've recently installed an attachment mod (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=74505), but I have added an attachment and it was OK, but someone else attached one recently - so I deleted it, but I still get this error.

This error only appears when trying to go to any thread (viewtopic.php) - but viewing forum sections (viewforum.php) and the forum home page is fine.

I'm confused

Cheers bassman. I found out it was actually a problem with the smilies. I uploaded some new ones but they didn't have any bbcode assigned to them and that was screwing things up.

You live and learn.

I cannot explain why(internal memory issues), but increasing the memory size of your box can also resolve this issue. It was not exactly my intension, but I got a server that had more memory while setting php memory to 8M, and I did not experience this problem.

I also read someone's suggesting to increase the size of memory allocated for MySQL(this is a pretty common problem). (I think)The best thing to do is ...

1. Let your server have a lot of memory
2. Increase php memory from 8 to 16, or even 32
3. Allow MySQL to use more memory
