Personally I use Vim - you get nice syntax highlighting and loads of keyboard shortcuts. It's often said that Vim is a tool, its use must be learned. Don't expect to be able to jump straight in and use Vim without first learning how to use it. However, once you have invested the initial time in learning it, you'll find you can do things a lot quicker than you can in any other text editor. If you're running Windows, try gVim.

If we're talking IDEs - the Zend Framework is alright. Nothing beats Visual Studio though, although it's a pity that's not really suited to working in PHP.

I use vim together with some custom python plugins I've developed. As kieransimkin said, vim is a tool. You must learn to use it before you can really be productive with it.

Hi ,
If you are using PHP, I suggest Eclipse editor, it has more features and free tool.
Its support SVN, CSV, PHP Debugging,..
If you use only Html , Dreamweaver is ok.

Darn straight! It absolutely trumps Windows Notepad in several ways. How can you beat "Replace all in all opened documents"? With that and many other nifty features, I really can’t see myself reverting to Notepad. IMO, Notepad is okay for beginners building small, simple websites but it just doesn’t cut it for seasoned webdevs who need something more robust.
