thanks for the reply but i dont think thats the way they are hidding there links, they are using some sort of a jump script or something else, when i use your solution the affilaite link and the id would still be visible, i want it to not be visible and it should be decoded as it is with there links, banners.

They are most likely using something like this...
Code:
<script> function hidestatus(){ window.status='' return true } if (document.layers) document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEOVER | Event.MOUSEOUT) document.onmouseover=hidestatus document.onmouseout=hidestatus </script>
This hides anyhing in the status bar until someone clicks on a link.

Samer is probably on the money with the db redirect thingmajig.

Also, advantageous if you want to change a link, you just need to do it once in the db.

eCommando is liked by many
a lot of affiliate sites now use a database and redirect to their own page. there are too many parasites, and ad blocking softwares (Norton, etc.) these days.

To add to eCommando's point, there are many browser parasites that actually rewrite your affiliate urls to include their own affiliate ids, so they steal your commission. I'd recommend you put ALL your affiliate links through a redirect script.

That's great advice! Thanks. I am working on that now for the same reason. Also, another important reason is that external links give some link juice that makes your main affiliate higher in the serps, which is actually like breeding your own competition for the top keyword phrases.

HostSentry.net is liked by many
If your aim is to hide the url in the status, then don't use href's to do it. Slap
Code:
onclick="document.location.href = 'http://thesite.com';"
into the tag.
