WAP appz

Any idea if it's possible to have a dial in connection to a server which users could simply dial in from there cell phones?

In other words, people could connect via any WAP based hardware (cell phones, handhelds etc...) and they could view and interact with the site.

I think this can be done in xhtml not sure though. any help would be greatly appreciated.

"WAPDrive is now able to offer UK mobile phone users access to our very own WAP gateway"

This is exactly what I need, but I would like to have it for Canada if possible. Thank you for the great link.

Well I think all it is is coding. The phones are enables to read the WML. Are the phones in Canada capable of accessing the net?

Well in the states - you are measured in MB. You can get unlimited downloads for like $69.00 a month. But that it about it.

I think I see what you might be saying... you wanted to possibly created a BBS like system for cell phones & since cell phones have unlimited nightly / weekend minutes - you wanted to possibly take advantage of that? I do know that with one of my cell phones I can dial up an ISP & connnect it to my phone - so sort of making it "free". But that is about as close as I can see?

Yeah, your right on the money. Hmmmmm. You got me thinking and I think I have it covered. basicaly what I wanted was like for me to be the I.S.P. sort'of like if the user dials into my site it's like your dialing into a server which sends and receives your info. Futhremore you could interact with the site, you your could have BBS and other features which users could get.

I understand it totally. Maybe an open source BBS program might be one way that you could test it out before investing too much time / money into the project?

ButI also have to wonder, since you are connecting to the BBS / ISP via the data mode, aren't you being charged then for the MB that are being transmitted?

Not sure to tell you honestly. but if neccessary I would be willing to foot the bill for it. See all phoes are virtualy different with all the plans out there.

For instance, my newest phone is unlimited time, but I have to pay fr internet.

It would be erally cool though if I didn't have to pay for it, if I could just dial into a netwrok and go from there. Sorta of like working offline function in IE.

Perhaps this can be accomplished by cashing the pages.

Possibly. I have not seena phone bill in a long time (company pays for mine). So I could not tell you but I do think that it does go against the data transfer. I would maybe contact your carrier to see what they say - what type of transfer it is considered.
