Have I Stumbled Upon The Holy Grail Of Drop Shadow Application?

While surfing the Web today to look for the most browser friendly way to apply drop shadows to various elements, I came across this fairly old (over 4 years) but rather interesting article. From my observations thus far, the shadows seem to look the same across the more popular browsers but I want to do more testing at the slow but handy Browsershots website before I use the code.

In the meantime, does anyone see potential problems that might arise out of using this method to apply drop shadows? If so, are there better (and perhaps less code bloated) ways to go about doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Oops! I just found out why the drop shadow on that page seemed to work in every browser. When I right clicked the photo and chose “View Image” it still had the shadow which meant that rather than being added via the CSS it was done in Photoshop or some similar application: A surefire way for consistent display regardless of browser!

On the other hand, the shadows on Demo page, applied to the pictures and highlighted note, are the “real deal” and unfortunately (as clearly stated on that page) don’t display correctly at all in some browsers.

The search for that elusive grail continues...
