I think of a coder as being someone that does programming for other people or creates addons to scripts.
I think of a developer as being someone that does programming to create something new with the intention of providing updates.

Not necessarily. One just works on other peoples codes, like adding stuff to it, change around code, making changes. While a developer is someone who would write software from scratch.
I'd say the majority of either can do both. I wouldn't say one is more skilled than the other just based on the work they do, however someone who works on other peoples code may also write their own.

These is no difference. They both do the same thing.
What is the difference between "boss" and "supervisor"?

Technically, a boss refers to the head of a company. Whereas, a supervisor is most likely the person above you in charge or who you report to.

I would like to add my theory that coder is just expert in coding and nothing else, Whereas developer is responsible for coding, performance and maintenance, he has broader work to handle.
Any ideas to share???

I think it depends on the environment you're in.
I've seen places where (coders == developers) but (coders !== developers).
I've seen places where coders are developers helpers, they complete very specific tasks assigned to them by developers, mostly tedious stuff that developers don't want to do anymore.

for me develop doesn't need to understand coding or little knowledge ....
why ? developer is someone who develop, implement, understand, monitor, maintenance abt the project, it not necessary need to understand coding
Developer develop the complete project

A coder does think, yet they don't DESIGN. Their role is focused mainly in IMPLEMENTATION.
I would think of a coder as somehow an artesan, you need someone capable in a particular language to be able to implement your design as a developer.

Just for the heck of it I thought I would see what wikipedia had to say on the subject.
Quote:
|
A software developer is a person or organization concerned with facets of the software development process wider than design and coding, a somewhat broader scope of computer programming or a specialty of project managing including some aspects of software product management. This person may contribute to the overview of the project on the application level rather than component level or individual programming tasks.
|
The term coder was redirected to programmer
Quote:
|
A programmer is someone who writes computer software. The term computer programmer can refer to a specialist in one area of computer programming or to a generalist who writes code for many kinds of software.
|
Those definations, if you choose to accept them, make most of your posts correct. You just said it in different terms.

Coders perform a specific task... they code.
Website developers develop entire websites. They may have the vision themselves or they may be in charge of developing someone else's vision.

Hi..
I do agree with Megamoose what he suggests is right...
Coder is one who justs types or provide the code for some users..
whereas a Developer is one who analysis the problem and write the code and deploy it and further ready to provide the solution for the clients at any point of time and is also able to modify it if necessary.
