For web design ect. I would recommend learning HTML, CSS, and PHP. For general purpose applications, if you want a nice easier language that is very versatile, use Python. If you really want to put yourself through hell, try to learn C++. It is the best language in my personal opinion, because it is so versatile, you can do anything with it.

If you are able to learn Java and C++ and also create applications in one of this languages, then you can make any application you want in any language.

All of the replies here are very helpful. For me, I love using php, html, css and java. I can do many things with it and it's easy to use if you master it.

I think C language is the best one which can allow you to clear all the fundamentals regarding software programming. It can help to develop your logic so that you can easily identify the basic problem and write program for that.

It depends on on your requirement. For learning the c is the most old language and if you have to develop applications then you require platform like the .net and others. Same case is with the mobile application platforms.

designed for engineering purposes by Konrad Zuse between 1943 and 1945. It was the first high-level non-von Neumann programming language to be designed for a computer. Also, notes survive with scribblings about such a plan calculation dating back to 1941.
