PHP or Perl/cgi?

I want a very simple nothing special 1:1 banner exchange network. While I'm sure they both work fine which is actually the better way to go for this type of website? PHP or Perl/cgi (note: my other sites on my hosting account is all PHP, if that even matters.)

P.S,

Dear v7n,

I put this here because I didn't know where it should go. Please consider a catergory for script(s) discussion

Question I found a php one

Okay I went with a free GNL scipt for this. phpBannerexchange 2.0 Gold ...
Has anyone ever used or tried out this script? The functions are very nice however its completely css driven. If i even ad a title to the index.php I recieve errors. I want to integrate a simple template to the index.php but anything I add to it recieves errors.

I never had this problem adding html to a php page. What am I doing wrong??? I went to the homepage and forum for this script at http://www.eschew.net/scripts/phpbe/2.0/ and there is like ZERO help there. They offer a few skins on the forum page but these are really just css edits.

Suggestions?

I love PHP.

Did you put the code in <?php ?> 's?

Did you rename the file to a .php?

Any html I tried is outside of the <?php ?> Furthermore it's already index.php so I didn't have to rename it.

Its strange because I never had this happen before on any other PHP EVER. I might just trash the script and find a new one because this might cause more headaches than what its worth.

my suggestion is to download the whole thing to your computer and also get a program called "Windows Grep" -- Install it and add .php files to the lists of files you want to grep. Then just search for the phrases that you want to change. It'll tell you where the text is located in the code and then you'll know where to edit.

So wait, you add html code to a php page, and you receive a php error? What error is that? Can you post a slice of the code before and after you added the html?

I would but I trashed the script. Kind of wish I didn't because it would have been nice if I could have showed someone and got an answer
