simple CSS text, intermittently seen in IE

I have been using CSS for a long time for IE only sites, and only use it to define text, to lock it down to a font style and size. I have an external style.css, and create it in Dreamweaver. Been doing it for years....

With my new site, some IE browsers recognize this CSS defined verdana text, and some do not!!!! My home computer recognizes it, however my work computer and other computers display it as times roman with default sizing...

Any ideas of where to look? I am mystified.

not all computers have the same fonts, it is better to do a font string of similar fonts. What this does is it will go down the line. Say you have the first font, then your computer will use that, but lets say your computer doesn't have the first 2 then it will use the 3rd one. It is always good to have a generic at the end that all computers will have like sans serif. Here would be a good example of a string to use and what I use most of the time
Code:
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;

I'm pretty sure the other computers would have verdana, unless they are pretty ancient

You're right though, definitely a good idea to do that.

True it's even recommanded in the W3C standards.
