Protecting Site's Text

Has anyone figured out how to eliminate the ability for readers to cut & paste text AND not have them be able to view the source or "edit with Microsoft Word".

I can do the first one but the other two? Anyone know?

Thanks,

There are plenty of encryption scripts out there that can do this for you.

Not the smartest thing to do SEO wise but it would work. They encrypt the source and make all the text non-selectable.

At the end of the day - If the browser can read it, then a human can copy it too. If a browser cannot read it, then a human won't however no one will be able to view the page.

I'll take a look. If anyone has any specifics on one they like or know of...

That's what I was afraid of mrblogs.

It would be for subscription content.

Thanks

Best way - Login who views each pages, then if the information starts cropping up onto other sites, you will have less of a headache catching the culprit. If it is a subscription site - then ban them etc, etc.

Is your password file in a password protected directory?

i assume that you are not storing passwords clear text, but are using some one way hashing mechanism (sha/md5 at least)? i don't understand why the website needs to have its source code encrypted to protect passwords, unless you are listing these passwords on a webpage?

I've seen people put whole pages of text in an image to keep people from taking it. Annoying if you ask me.

In the old days, companies would be afraid their competitors would get their data sheets so they wouldn't give them to customers. Competitors got them anyway. Customers didn't.

If someone wants you're web text, they can get it.

Thanks,
As long as people access your pages from web browsers, no amount of right click disabling or warning message can keep someone from stealing content if he wishes to do so.

If that's about the problem of copying, then consulting the culprit, asking for advise from a lawyer, or tracking down his ISP might help more than trying to do the option you propose.
