Favicon problem

Hello,

I am unable to change my favicon for all browsers.
Uploaded a 16x161 .ico file called "favicon.ico" and it only works like this:

Chrome: Shows in browser window only, buy not in near the address bar...
Firefox: Shows in browser window and near the address bar as well...
Explorer 7: NOT WORKING at all anywhere...

Help is greatly appreciated

Your icon needs to be in icon format. Otherwise you can make a png and use this:

<link rel="icon" href="/icon.png" type="image/png" />

I do have it in .ico (icon) format, so that's OK.
Size is 16x16...

Where should I place "<link rel="icon" href="/icon.png" type="image/png" />"?
In all my pages or just the index file?

It's a bit like similar to pointing to CSS...

So, I'd have to put this in all my pages?

i think IE looks for the favicon.ico file in your directory...

convert your png/jpg icons to ico files first.. you can try http://www.favicon.cc/

then rename it to favicon.ico, upload it to your root directory
then add this..
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" />

note: its "shortcut icon" not "icon"

Try refreshing the cache in IE and Chrome. You may be seeing the cached page from before you uploaded the icon.

I put the favicon.ico in my directory. (Root, main directory)...

And it works now. But, seems like Chrome doesn't put the favicon near the URL. There is that grey "globe" image. I think it's normal.

Only IE and FF put it there...

I appreciate your help, thanks a lot!

This favicon.ico thing drove me insane for a while, I had no idea why it worked on some browsers and not on others.
Certain programs don't seem to encode the ico file properly, so I used this photoshop plugin:
http://www.telegraphics.com.au/svn/i...st/README.html

Once you downloaded and installed plugin, resize image to 16X16, then save as favicon.ico. Upload the file to your site's root, then add the following code to the <head> section of your webpage.

Code:
<link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="/favicon.ico">

I simply used IrfanView... I put the favicon.ico on my hosting root folder and it worked.

I didn't use the "link rel" thing... I think that should've been placed into every page and we have hundreds of pages...
