I think you should learn PHP and after than move to codeigniter and phpcake framework because nowadays mostly companies are using frameworks. For learning PHP obviously W3Schools.com is the better choice online.

Interesting question. It depends on you purpose - to make your own projects or to work as web developer for somebody.
If it is the first case, yes it worth as you will not depend on somebody.
If it is the second case, you have to work for some bigger local company onsite. If you plan to make money like a freelancer - now way, the money is not enough.

I also think it's worth it. You don't know any programming language and learn PHP will be totally wasted then decide to learn some other language instead of PHP. Most Imperative languages has much in common so it's a lot easier to learn a language if you already know another language.

You must know that as html is mother of all web languages and php is father.

Its very good to learn even it will make a lot easier for you to automatically learn other languages.

But it has all thing that you will not need to learn other language except few basics.

so its worth learning..

Definitely. It's one of the most important web-based languages to deal with variables and also to fetch data from databases (from what I'm aware of). It's vital for every programmer or developer to learn at least the basics of PHP. Wish I did...

The Tablets and apps related stuff is hot now, unfortunately it is not a php field ( except cases when the app needs a web hub to mange data ). The interfaces are mostly based on javascript and the logic is on languages like Python and Java.

That is not necessarily true. It is true that the front end is mostly javascript, but the data feeding that is done through AJAX. That being said it can be most languages, and php is one of them. I have done several projects for mobile devices that fully utilize PHP to provide them data.

Totally worth it that's because it's a freeware programming language. You can make money out of it,because people actually can afford it unlike other languages ex. SAP.

Don't worry so much about the dirt cheap freelancers stealing your jobs. If you really think about it, and if you are a high quality programmer, you and dirt cheap freelancers are not competing for the same jobs whatsoever. There will always exist clients who think that they can spend $2,000 and get a beautiful, highly functional website that would take a high quality programmer 1,000 hours to develop. THESE ARE NOT YOUR CLIENTS, and will never be your clients, so the dirt cheap freelancers really aren't stealing anything.

Yes, learn PHP. Then do some jobs for free for some local companies. Then do some jobs for cheap. Then, in a year or two, you'll be doing $20k jobs for $20k rather than bidding $1,200 on a job for some lunatic who thinks he can get a $20k site for $500.

Good luck!

Dont go for custom development in PHP. Learn the tools which are based on PHP like magento, joomla etc because clever people say that dnt try to re invent wheels. Hope you got what i am saying.

Learn HTML, PHP, MySQL, java and know some Photoshop and Flash and next thing you know the sky is the limit. Forget being Indian or anything else... You may well make millions in coming years. Not Rs but USD. How it start is that you would work for someone at the beginning and you run your own projects on the side. Eventually your projects are the main and your job is on the side. Next stage, you become a one man band. Final stage, you're the boss.
