Internal Search Engine for Website

Currently our website is using an internal Google Search Engine, but our results have been terrible as of late. The search is one of the main focus' of the website and right now isn't working out.

Does anyone know of any other solutions for search?

Also this website is built in .net if that matters to anyone.

.Net can't be the source of problem. You need to thoroughly check the coding/configuration.

i think you need to create your own search functionality on your website where you can control which and what must be searched.. using Google search as your search engine for your website only helps if every page has been crawled and crawling doesn't really update that much..

What type of website is it? The reason i ask, is, if it's a blog or forum, it would probably not be so difficult to make you own search script.

Also, do you use VBScript or C#? If somebody want to help you with a search script, they will need to know what language your current scripts is programmed in, so you can implement the search script with your current code.

Come to think of it I don't know if a normal search engine would work. We're basically in a niche and the search engine is the main focus of the website. The search engine needs to find different stores or sub domains, instead of finding a certain file. Anyone have any thoughts on this or would it still work the same?

You can build your own search engine indexer using libraries like lucene, however I am afraid if the results are not good its not a problem with google or any search engine. Its a problem with how you are storing the documents and meta data with it. Make sure you have the correct metadata associated with the documents being indexed. Also the amount of data being indexed also matters. are you using GSA? or google custom site search?
