Open Graph validation error

I have a fully valid website, save one error:

Code:
<meta property="og:locale" />
The error is because property is not a valid attribute for the meta tag. The site is a Joomla site with an XHTML 1.0 Transitional doctype. I found this thread from two years ago, but for some reason the w3c validator did not recognize the suggested doctype fix:

Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01+RDFa 1.0//EN" "http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/DTD/html401-rdfa-1.dtd">
I'm not sure if that it because my current site is in XHTML1.0 transitional and the fix is for HTML4.01 transitional? (Also, a whole bunch of new errors were found with the 4.01 doctype, so I'm not really trying to change doctypes.)

Is there a known solution for this validation error that doesn't involve changing doctypes? Or, one that works with the site's current doctype (XHTML1.0 transitional)?

Thanks!

for the OG validation error, that one should not mind you because OG meta tags are not standard at all because it is just used by Facebook..

now on your doctypes, the doctype you posted is not a really standard one (you can check the standard doctypes here)

again like in Facebook, it is used by Joomla. there is a reason why they are using that doctype even though they know that it is not a valid one.

being not a W3C valid website doesn't really hurt or makes sense to normal visitors of your website. those kind of validation errors you pointed can be skipped since you are using a software that is pre-built like Joomla..

Hi Johnny, thanks for your reply! I understand that the OG tag is only used by facebook and does not affect any other code, but the client requested a fully valid site, so that is not really the issue. The issue is how to get rid of the error without disabling open graph or the extension that produces the error.

Maybe I wasn't clear; the "HTML 4.01+RDFa 1.0" doctype I posted is not the doctype I am currently using, as i said it was one of the solutions I found on another forum that did not work for me. (I posted it in case anyone else here has used it successfully and could give me pointers on how to make it work correctly.) As I stated, my doctype is XHTML1.0 Transitional which is fairly common and standard.

Any advice you have on how to get rid of the OG error would be helpful! Thanks!
