Jquery cycle question

I am using jQuery cycle to scroll several videos with a description of each. The site owners want the cycle to pause when play is pressed. Right now, it will pause as long as you are hovered over the div. I used javascript to detect a click in the div and pause the scrolling and that works UNLESS it's a click on the video. It isn't detected and keeps scrolling. Could someone point me in the right direction to figure this one out?
