Favicon to hex value

Does anyone know how to take a favicon or gif image, and get the hex value for it? I have been using some program called XVI32, and am doing everything like I think I am supposed to, but it doesn't seem to be working once I plug the hex value into the registry file.

I'm trying to customize a toolbar......I've been able to get everything else to work except the silly icon...and i need the icon, cuz otherwise it looks out of place.

can anyone help me with this??

Can you not load it into photoshop and use the eyedropper to find the hex?

That's the icon I want to show up. But whenever I paste that in, it doesn't show up. So do I like need to reformat it to a certain number of characters per line or what?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Manually Creating and Installing a Custom Button

To install a custom button to the Google Toolbar:

1. Create a button XML file as shown in the previous (and following) sections.

2. Save the button's XML file at:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Custom Buttons\filename.xml

where username is your Windows login name and filename is the file name you choose to give the XML file.

In our Wikipedia example, for login name "larry", save the button's XML file at:

C:\Documents and Settings\larry\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Custom Buttons\wikipedia.xml
3. Then open a new Internet Explorer window with Google Toolbar 4.0 installed. A new button appears with a question mark image, as shown in the following screenshot -- clicking the question mark icon goes to Wikipedia.

Well what I am doing is making a plugin thingy to distribute on my site to other library people that will have librarian related custom searches......... So need to have it done this way with the registry files so I can share it with others easily. I just can't seem to get the icon thingy right, and I'm sure its really silly...and probably something I should get. I don't know what I'm not seeing or doing right. Blah. It's frustrating.

Does it have to be the google toolbar? because I use a toolbar for my site which you can add anything you like, including google search and the PR bar, this way you have exactly the same featutes as google's toolbar but with a more easy way to add custom buttons.

Yeah, cuz my demographics tend to already have the google toolbar, and its not likely they'd install a whole new toolbar.

They would have to install a new toolbar anyway if you want them to have a custom button of your own, or am I wrong?

And the good thing about the custom one that I use for my site is that I can track how many people actually installed it, use it at a given time and even how many clicks they've made on the buttons. It comes with stats.

Nope, all they would need to do is download the file, and double click it to install (cuz its a registry file). This way is different than the way google says to do it, with XML and all that. That would work for one person, but not if I wanted to make something that a thousand could use (for instance).
