Website Tracking URL

I've seen many business owner tracking every single employee by providing them separate URL to see their improvement to generate leads.

The url is like, http://www.mysite.com/i/im
It contains the tracking ID "im".

So My question is how will I make this kinds of tracking URL?

Thanks.

The easy way is you can use a URL shortener that gives statistics like goo.gl.

The proper way to do it would be to have a database recording all the traffic coming through the specific persons url id via some coding done on the destination page. A bit of MySQL and PHP should do the trick.

but I would like to showing that URL like this one, http://www.MYURL.com/trackingcode

and also let me tell, if any of my employee building backlinks by using this tracking url will this do 301 redirection that will help for increase backlinks too?

My suggestion would be look up how to make your own affiliate code tracking system. It would be basically work the same way. User clicks link, database records person arrived via the link, incoming link credited to the appropriate employee.

Thanks. but I've added this topic under SEO because SEO people are using URL tracking code for see lead generation not web developer. So I'm now concerned to get right answer now.

It's quite simple, actually. First, you need to create a proxy script that serves an image (or some other resource, such as Javascript) that also logs information about the user.

Building a PHP Image Proxy Script

And then you need to build a separate PHP script that interprets the data in a usable form.
