Making the page float !help!

I'm trying to make my page move when the browser resizes. Basically if I have a widescreen computer the page would be in the middle with white space on the sides but as soon as a shrink my browser window the page will recenter itself over and over. (see facebook for example) I'm having trouble making it work. I think it has something to do with making my layers float but I've been having trouble with it.

Can someone please either tell me how to accomplish it via simple code or through Adobe Golive options.

Thanks

I just create a content div with a fixed width (like 780px) and
margin: 2px auto;

Cool. Is there any other way to do it?

I'm interested to see if I can avoid divs alltogether. I'll do it if I have to though.

Why avoid divs? You could do it with tables and use the same concept.

Forget about the fact that they're the current standard, they're just plain better. in a table all of the information is downloaded before any of it is displayed. In a div it is displayed as it's downloaded.

It's like loading a huge image. Tables will download the whole image then show it all at once. Divs will show the image peice by piece as it's downloaded.

I know I've seen it somewhere, and I'm looking for that information right now. But until then, I will say that tabled pages tend to have all of the markup for the page on the page itself, so it's downloaded each time the page is viewed. And that does affect speed, and can cost you when you consider the bandwidth involved.

Divs are just freeform boxes. No reason not to use them... Is it not working for ya?

Tables have more elements, THEAD,TBODY,TR,TD.. Divs have a single simple element.

margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; and as long as you use width: ???px;
your div will center itself.

You may also want to make sure that your website is not in Quirks mode, at least so that it is working properly in the browsers.

Actually you can. I have been looking for a php programmer who could do some form elements for my site. The forms will be akin to those on facebook or myspace. Basically something that will allow users to create their profiles and then search others based on a variety of characteristics. If you guys know anyone who could do that let me know.
