Directory scripts?

I'm keeping an eye out for directory scripts. So far I've found two good examples:

phplinks

and

directory-saerch.org

The trouble is, the directory-search directory is nice and clean and presentable - but not very powerful - there's no overt way of changing settings, or creating associations between connected directories.

The trouble with phplinks is that, although pretty powerful on that side, it really does suck on the user interface side, with some very poor presentation that goes beyond CSS. Plus there are a couple of bugs, and no apparent support on the site.

What I'm looking for is a directory script where there's a good amount of power under the hood, is nice and presentable, and doesn't cost hundreds of dollars to run.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

You could just use Xaraya for all of your needs instead of mixing and matching, but I am biased.

Your site looks lovely, but I don;t see a demonstration of a directory on it. Is there one linked to frmo the left-hand nav bar?

Also, a CMS is above what I actually need - which remains just the directory system. Regardless, I've donwloaded it anyway, and will take a closer look.

There is the Xaraya-ized portion. We don't really have a need for a directory on Xaraya.com, but it would just be a little bit of category set-up and then a custom publication type to capture the information that you want to use. In addition you could assign permissions to individuals for certain cats. It would do the job if you were willing to invest the hour or so of set up for the directory, and then the design of the templates, etc.

That is one heck of a big folder - nearly 17 megs of files? My ISP seems to be playing up, so it's being a complete (female dog) to FTP up.

Btw - major recommendation for you - stick all of the Xaraya graphics files in a single images directory separate from the actual php files. At the moment, there seems to be a different image folder within every other module folder - and that means I may have to go back and re-FTP all the images in binary mode after installation. That's not logical.

You've seen my directory I know and I use directory-search.org and I have found it the best free version to use. If you wish to pay there are some good ones on hotscripts. Also directory-search.org does a very powerful version which you can request, unfortunately they quoted the price to me at $500

I use Linker for light applications. It does allow associations and is completely customozable through templates. I don't know how well it performs when put to heavy use.

You can see it here

Or with the photo upload option here

and another example

It's a free script. Cick below to go to the source
