There is plenty of functionality that I IDE can provide that can enhance, speed up and make development more consistent. Everything from auto formatting to auto inserting snippets, to templates, to version control. IMHO there is no reason to not use one these days.

Dreamweaver is now not good for development as they are not upgrading mysqli extention in php but yes its good for designing. But for development you should use phpstorm.

What is interesting about this is that there are still large Fortune 500 companies that still utilize Dreamweaver as an IDE believe it or not (I used to work for one).

I hated it, and left for a better opportunity recently, but yeah ... I can't believe that such large corporations (who will remain nameless) still use it.

I personally really enjoy Visual Studio, but the only way to make it work with PHP is with a paid add-on.

A lot of smaller/newer organizations seem to be leaning towards Web or Cloud based IDE's to manage projects. I've tried some of them and never had any issues. I can't think of their names off the top of my head though, unfortunately. I do have a sandbox with codeanywhere.com and their IDE works pretty well, considering it is free. I could easily recommend them.

Looking forward to trying some of the suggestions in here. So far I'm still stuck with Notepadd++ -- but my PHP programming level (since leaving my previous job) is now just a hobbyist so take that for what its worth.

We should play nice, as HTMLBasicTutor suggested It's just an IDE folks. Seems that we are all on the same team as PHP devs anyways

eclipse and netbeans are good IDE for php development.
if you want graphic and development both than nothing is better than dreamweaver.

you can also use sublime text or aptana studio. may be these are best as per your requirement.
