Here is some threads where you may get an idea of where to learn coding/markup:
- What are some good resources for learning HTML & CSS?
- How I can learn programming language without taking admission in any institute.

And if you look in this forum section you will probably find a lot more.

tutsplus.com is one of the most popular site which has tutorials about web design, code, business, etc. I think it's exactly what you're looking for.

You can watch video tutorials as a beginner.
thenewboston channel by bucky teaches web development in a funny way. Then you can go for advanced tutorials, start building small web application, make websites. Your skills will improve.

I disagree the Javascript is intermediate. I would say, as in any language, Javascript is intermediate to get started, but can be more complex than server side.

I second that. And when you add having to worry about cross-browser compatibility it gets doubly complicated. Of course, that isn't so much a problem these days since most browsers now play nice for the most part (took you long enough Microsoft). There comes a time where when it gets a bit complicated one should look to jQuery to handle the heavy lifting ... and apparently over 91% of all websites do just that. If they didn't, however, OMG javascript these days would be a nightmare in complexity to handle the ever growing boom-bang of pages.

I think that you should filter your stats for jQuery to the top sites. There is a pretty big move away from jQuery as of late.

For web development, w3school is the best in my opinion. Codeacademy is more like a hands-on experience than w3school but it lacks in depth tuts.

w3schools.com
codeacademy,com

Coding is not easy as we think. Only they can learn whoever interested in coding languages. If you are interested then you should do a study of BCA or BSCIT.

W3School and TutorialsPoint are the best sites for me. You can get the basics of many programming languages from these.
