Red face PHP + Joomla help

Hi everyone.

I registered a site about a year ago, and it's been sitting doing nothing since then. I finally got around to installing joomla, which was really easy. Here is my situation, I dont know if you would call it a "press release" site but I want the site to draw off of other sites RSS feeds so I dont have to update constantly, "it will do it by itself" if that makes any sense.

Does anyone know how to do this?

My friend had a site that does this with news entries. It is a combination between PHP and XML. Basically, the PHP grabs the XML and displays it.

Now, as far as doing something like that with Joomla, I'm not sure

As with anything coding, the answer to the question can it do.... is always yes. The real question is can someone make it do this in a reasonable way and in a reasonable amount of time/money?

I have worked with Mambo, Joomla's free predecesor. It is a bit of a pain in the butt for this kind of customization. Your best bet is to check out all the modules and addons available for Joomla. There are a bunch of them and lots that relate to RSS news feeds.

I believe Joomla has one they coded called Newsfeed. A quick google search got this:
http://help.joomla.org/content/view/1560/196/
Since it is a "standard" module it should plug in pretty easily.

Good Luck.

Thanks, Ill look into that. The "news feeds" module is basically what i want it to do. I dont supose theres a way to keep the article on my site after clicking on the feed. Like I have a feed already infput, but when you click on the article, it redirects to the authors site. Or would that be copyright infringement?

I think that is included in the module. Most of them do that.

Yep. Joomla's news feeds _component_ (com_newsfeeds) keeps them on your site. Plus, you can define how many items you want per feed and various other options.
