Smile Embarrised to ask

Hello I am developing a 500 page site and using Dreamweaver 8 for the construction work.

Have no webmastering experience.

Have trialed uploading pages that all work on my computer perfectly , however when uploaded to the server, the pages all work and the pics/jpg's are not there? Red crosses instead. although they are in the images file on the server.

The script was originally a php thet we changed 90% to html trans 4.01 , the server is on Linux , can any body help with this settings configuration on the server, please, driving me nuts!

Sounds like it isn't a server issue, sounds like it is a tag issue...

Basically the image tags might be pointing to the wrong place... I would first check your html coded image tags to see where they are pointing versus where they shuld be pointing.

Sounds like you've referenced the images on your local machine rather than on the server. Check to see where the error lies and then use DW to do a find and replace instead of changing each one individually.

Thanks Matt,

Yes as Isla and you have said I have a local name on the DW Img source tag , what I am trying first is to creat a sub directory to my image Directory on the server with the local name, do you think that may work?

Then I shall try your way, how do I find the (find and replace)?

we have 100,000 jpgs plus so changing them bulk is the only way.

Regards Majindi

thanks for the help

Matt / Isla

That worked very well , created a new directory on the site with the original file name used when constructing with DW8 and it works.

All I have to do now is work out how to get the Front Page (Index page) to load instead of seeing an Index list! Any feedback much appreciated

Thanks Majindi

You need to place an index.html file in your /public_html/ directory.

Matt

I sort have tried that, do you mean that I must creat a file in the root directory called, my site /public html and then within that directory a directory called index html?

index.html or index.php or index.asp or index.htm or index.aspx or index.??? lol you need an index file, though I'd turn off indexing on your server if you know how to. you need an index.something file though, and the order it looks for it is index.html/htm index.php index.asp on most servers.
