Actually you could probably add a plug-in to forums, you know, like the quick reply box i'm typing in now!
It would require an extra field or two to fill in on your profile, and one extra script in the forum server that issues the varification request, and then of course, your server must have a script to issue a varification responce.
How to organise this as a service to other people I don't know!

yes, now write a PHP script to send an HTTP request just the like a browser would, but give it a fake referer field.

Juggo didnt sucessfully pretend to be spear, his name says Juggo, not spear so how did that work. There is really no other way.
It shows you what you are and where your at.

I want the check to not be in the link, but where is was clicked from if at all possible... if it's not... then we can try something along these lines... but I really want to make sure it's not at all possible before moving on.
I would rather the link just be: http://www.thespear.net/verify/?nick=theSpear or something along those lines and the actual domain be found through the click some how.
I see that what spear posted works, but there is a step I am trying to get in here, that's not happening.

about that... I added some text saying site & nick

Ok, i think i lost thought of the original post.
Is this for one forum or any forum? For different forums people are going to have different names.
Isnt this site just gonna be like a profile. I'll go to
http://www.thespear.net/verify/verify.php?nick=Sim
it'll say
im sim
at this forum
narutoweb.net/po2
psychotomus at vbforums
ect.?

sim i could go to another forum and sign up with the username "sim" then put loads of offensive remarks and giv you a bad name, or I could claim to be you in order to socially engineer people that might recognise your name.
Maybe if JuggoPop wen't on holiday without telling anyone, I could sign up here at IMR with the username Juggo_Pop and pretend to be him, sure it would probably be easy to tell I wasn't really him, but that's only an example.
Juggo the fundimental floor is that if your stalker goes to a forum pretending to be you, the other people there won't realise that the real you has a 'verfify me' link, so they won't be alarmed at the lack of one when it's not the real you.
But it is a good idea, and I'm sure there are others that would like to use it.
One of the greatest things on the net is annonymity, which means 2 things:
1) you are nobody
2) you could be anybody
Using varification you can actualy be somebody.

I just want to be able to tie my "nobody's" into on bigger "nobody". There are enough people online that it's possible that there is another juggopop... I just want to be able to tell people (with a simple service) that I'm this one... and not the other. That way... if someone get offended at another forum because of something another juggopop says... if the come to IMR they don't automaticly hate me because they think I'm the same person. "My Footer" would ask you to check to make sure it's me...
I guess the best thing would be just to make myself a page stating where I am a member of... but I thought in the process I would try to make it a service anyone could use.

I think it's a good idea Juggo. It may take awhile to be accepted but could be a pretty useful thing for the internets elite.

LazyJim, that wouldnt work. If he goes sign up at another forum, spear's list isnt gonna be updated automaticly, he should have to update it himself. Like he said if someone else has the same name as him, he'll have to think of something. So there will only be one "name" which has there own list. Of course someone could create a list with a bunch of fake things. I can say im John Scott and list all the forum's he's on. How's juggo gonna know =)

yes that's why lists and the current solutions suggested won't work, and that's why i suggested the new solution where you give a pass-code to each forum u register at, which that forum can use in a varification request.

well if the check system worked the way it was supposed to, the link button would "ideally" be apart of a forum... in your profile you would click a radio button (yes I want to be verified blah blah blah or no I don't) with yes, an extra button would be listed to the right of the "profile, pm, www, aim" buttons. That link would check the name you are registed under at that forum. (I guess the site domain could be in the url too, as it would come from the phpBB software... hmmmm.) anyway... it would result in the proper link and result.
though there is still the question of how would one "make sure" they are really a member? (I'll have to think for a bit on this one)

easy enough to make a phpbb module to do it.. theyve done ones for new profile things before.. wouldnt be too hard to do it.. and just when you sign up accts have something in there
if (verified.checked) { fopen($site, $pass, $nick) } etc.. etc etc

where you going to run that script at to check a verify list? on the mod? if you signed up for that forum, thats enough to say tis you. if you include how to connect to your database on your mod, your asking to get in trouble.

Re: Username Verify Service
Yep... shouldn't be hard if I can figure out the rest of making it work first.

1a) Story-bord the scenario when someone varifies the real you, and the scenario when someone discovers an imposter.
1b) Strory-board the scenarios when someone varfies an imposter as the real you.
