Looking for a good online database

Im relatively new to the web codeing world, however i do understand enought html to do some basic to intermediate functions. My question is im looking for a way to organize lots of information into a database of sorts, the database will allow users to search it and seperate out entrys based on different factors, each entry can be clicked on which will take the user to another page with more specific information concerning that entry. Three important features in this "database" are it must be able to incorporate pictures with each entry, users need to be able to comment on each entry and have comments posted in that entry about that entry, and finally it must be free or close to it! i know its asking alot but im hopeing somebody has heard of something that will match my needs closely.

Any decent database can handle the requirements you mention. The most common database on the web today is MySQL.

I think what you are really asking for is a script or program that will provide this functionality and use a database. I don't know of anything that will do this off the top of my head. You might start by searching for photo gallery scripts. That assumes that you are using a single picture for each entry and people will comment on the entry. The other option to try is some of the CMS's (Content Management Systems). A couple of common ones that can do what you ask to one extent or another are Joomla and Drupal. There are a lot of CMS's out there and many are open source and free. Good Hunting.

ya thats right, i actually allready have a server set up with mysql installed and php support, thank you for the ideas i will look into them
