PHP HELP!!!

I know there are so many of you PHP guru's out there... and I'm jealous of you all! Even though I do all my coding, I still haven't had the time to learn the ins and outs of PHP. So that is why I have come to all of you for your help. I am running an APACHE server with IIS (obviously). Right now I am looking to have form submissions for simple contact information. I would like them to send me an email when these forms are submitted. I'm too lazy to setup my CGI client, which just so happens to be down now. So i figured this might be a good time to start diving into PHP. SOOOO... say I want to tranform all of my HTM files into PHP. What does that involve other than just adding <?php ?> ??? I know it can't be that easy. .. AND with the code attached below... how can I make this form send me an email... you can also find the page at http://www.richlinetechnical.com/contact.htm I am on MSN currently so if you want to contact me... go for it... Well simply adding the <?php and ?> tags on the start and end of the file and renaming it .php instead of .html will not really classify the page as php.

Infact if you do that you will find a bunch of errors as php does not like html code witin the opening and closing php tags.

Sure you can mix php and html. YOu just have to either open and close your php tags before or after your html code or you could use the php code

echo "code goes here"; or print "code goes here";

To have html code within the acutal php code.

Any document with even just 1 line of php should have the php extension vs the html extension. This tells apache to run the file thru the php parser before sending it along to the browser requesting the page.

As long as the file ext. is .php you're fine

For example.

<?php
echo "<html>";
echo "<head>";
?>

Etc.

Just dont forget to watch out for the apostraphes.

Example:
<?php
echo 'I'm the banana king';
?>

wont work, you must 'escape' the quote mark by using the \ mark before it.

<?php
echo 'I\'m the banana king';
?>

Actually if you single quote you don't need to worry about escaping 's
echo 'That'll work';
echo "This'll not work";

looks like an Autobiography in the discription tag!

To me PHPBB is like tomato ketchup, you have to turn the bottle upside down and give it a good slap to get the stuff out!!!
