Tamarin Project(FireFox and Adobe Flash)
It has recently come to my attention that flash movies will not play in the Firefox browser without the help of a external plug-in. But, there is hope for the future of Firefox and flash. Adobe and Mozilla have teamed together on the Tamarin project to help to
alleviate the strain on web/flash developers that this causes. They are working on integrating action script into the Firefox browser to produce a more robust, cross-platform browsing experience for Firefox users, they expect to complete the project in 2008. Feel free to follow the link I have provided below, for a more detailed explanation of The Tamarin project. Plus, I have included a link to the plug-in required by Firefox to view flash. Thank you.

Flash requires a plug-in to work on any browser.
Thanks for the link to the Tamarin Project, although it is not Flash-centric, it will likely benefit flash developers and create a more seamless experience for some developers.
It should give Firefox a boost in popularity I hope, but it would be great for everyone if all browsers will get a similar upgrade. Let's hope the other browsers release their new JavaScript engines at about the same time. Indeed putting it into flash will be a cross platform dream, but not everyone likes flash and as already said, it requires a plug-in to work.

You know, I have had flash installed on my machine for so long now, that I completely forgot it was a plug-in for ie, too. Just so I am not being biased, below is a link to flash player plug-in for Interent Explorer. As far as development tools go, I am hooked on flash, and will continue using it and following its development as time goes by. Hopefully, in the future, flash will become more popular, so browsers will start making the flash plug-ins part of their initial installations, so people won't have to go through the hassle of finding out that they need it to properly view alot of today's web content. Thanks.

nice dream, but I still prefer if a neutral standards based 'replacement' was found and implemented well. SVG has the potential but I don't think it will really ever be the flash replacement I dream of
(never like flash myself, if I tried I might like it so I don't try for now anyway)

The biggest problem with integrating any proprietary technology into third-party technologies is readily apparent when the party of the 1st software makes changes that then need to be updated by the party of the 2nd software.
Say Mozilla builds in native support for Flash v.14. What happens when Flash v.15 is released? Okay, Mozilla needs to be updated, provided they have a replacement available. Oops! Bugs/security holes are discovered in Flash v.15! Now what? Okay, Mozilla needs to make a new version of their browser with Flash's fix included. Dang! Another problem with the Flash code! Yet another Mozilla relase to fix it ... and so on.
As it is, Mozilla can have their own issues to fix and Flash can have its own issues to fix, and when one gets patched, it's not necessary for the other to release a new version to accomodate the fix.
Weird stuff like Flash should remain as a plug-in, IMHO. Just like Media Player, QuickTime, etc.etc.

Party of the 1st software, party of the second software???? James, you're sounding more like a lawyer than a coder! I couldn't resist. I work for lawyers.
And I agree that most of the things like flash need to be 3rd party plug-ins.
Jim, smart choice to leave flash alone. Not because it is bad but because it is very cool, addictive, and in some ways depressing because you can do so much with it. But it is still so limited by SE inability to do much with it.

Yeah ... disgusting, ain't it?
(I, too, am the IT guy for a bunch of lawyers ... I guess some of it gets in there, somehow. )

I'd like to note, Firefox, Netscape, Mozilla, SeaMonkey, and Opera all use the same version of this plugin. IE does not.
