Anyone know where to get the mod to make a use add the random code displayed to set up an account. Trying to stop a sudden rash of spam bots creating accounts..

Hi Dave,

I have written a script to do this to protect email addresses, I can modify & install it in your forum script [not free].

If you want to 'roll your own' check out the PHP documentation for 'imagestringbox', that function is the key to what you want to do.

Didnt know there was an image verification for phpbb, had 50 new accounts setup by a bot the other day also getting increasing numbers of porn links in profiles would be good to have a word block on the fields in a profile like you do in the message field.

The whole emphasis on PR & link counts has made the spammers go nuts.

If you can block your members lists with your robots.txt file it makes the spammer's links useless.

You can fight the registration bots by renaming your registration form field names from things like 'last name' to 'n99am00e', this isn't as reliable as using a human verification image but it will help.

Hi Cray,

You probably know this but I should state it for others:

Changing the name of a form input field also requires making a change to that name somewhere in the form processing code.

As always, backup your files, work on test files/servers, etc.

Yep good point, I always make backups of backups! when I'm editing any phpBB code otherwise you really will kick yourself when the forum goes down and you have to try and manually repair it.

If you are talking about the visual confirmation thing, where you have to put in the numbers shown in the image, it is in the "contrib" folder of the phpBB zip file. It is a zip file inside that folder that you unzip and install on your board.

Thats for release 2.0.6 only i belive. This is a backward port from a standard feature that will be in 2.2
