Meta Tags??

Ok, here is my question... I know that as a web developer meta tags a re a must have on all of my webpages so I can be found in the WWW, but do they really do all of the things they are supposed to be. For instance with a good meta tag can I get yahoo to find my site in a quick amount of time using meta tags or would I have to pay them to input my meta tags direct to their search engines. I am very confused with the whole idea of meta tags any input you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

meta tags are a very good thing to have, actually, as you stated they are a MUST. To get ranked well, you need to do just more than meta-tags.

i.e. you need to establish quite a few backlinks. we you get those, get more, repeat over and over

You also have to make sure your site is optimized for the keyword/s you want to have your site visible on. There are many posts on this forum about this. I'd advise checking them out. They are in the marketing section.

Those should help you out quite a bit, and open your mind to many other aspects of SEO

The jury is still out on this a1c1e19. Some people think that Meta Tags are pretty unless when it comes to getting ranked.

Meta tags are very useful for other things as well. When I am looking for links to exchange with or links to add to my directory I look at the meta description tag.

Plus it validates your html/xhtml, I think

basically meta tags record extra bits of info about the page.

the key-words and description meta tags were the main ones, these provide old, current and future search engines with that information so they know what your site is about and how to describe it to a human.

there are so many otheres I don't know them!
