What is a good first scripting language to learn for a newbie

I know the basics, HTML and CSS and coming from a programming background I know quite a few programming languages too; c, c++, VB seem the relevant ones to mention here.

So I was wondering, in the world of web design what would you advise someone just getting into the programming side to learn first and maybe second?

I'm thinking javascript and php, but don't let me put ideas into your heads.

@SITA:
Since you already knew C, C++ you definately should try C# because they are all related in some way.

And you also have a lot of blogs, sites and resources to learn it.

Good luck, my friend!

PHP's syntax is pretty similar to that of C/C++, that might be the easiest transition.

There is JSP (Java Server Pages) from sun, if you are familiar with java at all, this is pimp too.

Javascript is a very useful tool, lots of cool front-end magic can be performed with this, so ask yourself if you'd rather start out with front-end program design or back-end.

Good luck. =D
